Happy Holidays to You from the Lanzi Brothers! |
 Wear Your Crazy Holiday Sweater
and Get a FREE Dessert!A couple of years ago one of the staff hosted a Christmas Party that we were all invited to… but the catch was, we all had to wear our “Christmas sweaters.” Oh boy, there were some doozies! I think some people headed out the local thrift store and found the Christmas sweater rack and chose the most gaudy. Susan won because, no word of a lie…hers lit up and played Christmas carols…we’re still laughing! We were recollecting the event recently and thought, how can we get you, our favorite guests, to get in on the fun? We’ve decided that if you wear your “Christmas Sweater” to see us in December, we’ll give you a free dessert. We’ll take your photo and add it to the “Christmas Sweater Wall of Fame.” We will need to see you before Christmas Day; after all, there’s only a small window of opportunity for this kind of fashion statement! Expires: December 25, 2008

It’s Not a Water Bowl If you have a live Christmas tree, cover the basin of the stand with netting or a tree skirt to deter cats and dogs from drinking the water. Sap and chemicals can leach into the water and sicken your pets. As an extra pet repellent, spray citrus or citronella scents on the tree. |
Three ways to ease your anxiety this month For many, the end-of-year wrap-up duties at work collide mightily with what should be pleasurable personal activities after hours, and pretty soon it all seems like work that will never get done. Here are three tips to help you navigate your personal obligations:
1. Aim for “good enough.” Stop striving for perfection. You’ll only drive yourself—and anyone else in your orbit—nuts. You can’t make everything ideal. No tree is perfect; cookies don’t have to be made from scratch. Do your best, then move on. 2. Prioritize your socializing. With all the parties and get-togethers going on during the holiday season, don’t feel obligated to attend every single function. Decide which events are most important both professionally and personally, and skip the nonessential ones. 3. Divide the labor. Separate your to-do list into small, manageable chunks. Instead of exhausting yourself by trying to do everything at once, wrap one or two gifts every evening. Shop online during lunch breaks for 20 minutes at a time. Write five holiday cards each morning. Break down tasks however you can so they’re not daunting. |

Just Your Cup of Tea Health experts have long held that tea lowers the risk of heart disease, stroke, and possibly some cancers. Now British researchers at the University College London are saying that tea lowers stress. In a study, half the participants drank four cups of black tea a day; the other half drank similarly tasting tea but without active tea ingredients. After six weeks, the real tea drinkers had lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol than the ones who had been drinking the placebo tea. High levels of cortisol can weaken the immune system and induce cravings for fattening foods. |

Shopping Sense
The sheriff’s office in Broward County, FL, offers these safety tips for holiday shoppers:
· Make several trips to your car to drop off packages while shopping rather than trying to carry too many items around with you. · Put packages and bags in the trunk or otherwise keep them out of sight to deter thieves. · Leave the mall or shopping center well before closing time to increase the likelihood that you won’t be walking out alone. · If you are leaving the store at closing time, ask mall security or the package pick-up service to escort you to your vehicle. |
